Hi there! My name is Blythe M. Davis, and I am the creative mind behind Wild Recycled. Since 2018, I have been on a mission to give a second life to discarded bicycles and their components, turning them into pieces of modern art and design.
My journey began when I noticed the staggering number of bikes thrown away in Minneapolis. I realized that this is a problem both locally and globally. With over a BILLION bikes in the world, it is estimated that 15 million are thrown away each year. It broke my heart to think of these incredible machines ending up in landfills when so much possibility was left in them.
Inspired by Picasso’s Tête de Taureau, I started creating one-of-a-kind bike taxidermy with used bike saddles and handlebars. Soon my creativity led me to explore new ways to repurpose the other components. In addition to my bike taxidermy, I now offer an array of home goods and personal accessories.
I am driven to play with the balance of color, texture, and form. I find inspiration in the rugged, weathered look of used bicycle parts. Everything has potential, and I aim to showcase the unique beauty of what others might consider ugly. It is about taking what has been deemed trash and turning it into something extraordinary and whimsical.
I like to think that my works tell stories of adventures taken and miles traveled. My pieces are representations of history, resilience, and transformation. Through my art, I hope to inspire others to appreciate the capacity in all things and to consider how we can minimize waste in our modern world. Next time you see an old bike sitting in the alley, please take a moment to think about the story it holds and the potential it has for a new beginning.
